Ambassador Latheef and Deputy Ambassador Jinah attended the open house at the Embassy of India, to witness the result of the Indian general election ‘to celebrate the worlds greatest democratic exercise’ on 23 May 2019.

Deputy Ambassador Mohamed Jinah attended the GCOCP – Congress 2019 / 13th Annual International Forum on 20-21 May 2019. The international Forum is part of the 24th German Prevention Congress (DPTDesutscher Praventionstag). Keynote addressed by Dr. Franziska Giffrey, Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizen , Women and Youth.

Ambassador Latheef attended the debriefing on ‘Petersberg Climate Dialogue 2019’ at the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear on 21 May 2019. The tenth Petersberg Climate Dialogue took place on 13-14 May in Berlin. The Environment Ministers from Germany and Chile invited Ministers and high-level representatives from around 35 countries to Berlin, in order to discuss the most pressing issues with regard to international climate protection, and to prepare for the major upcoming events COP 25 in Chile and the Climate Action Summit on invitation of UN Secretary General Guterres. Chancellor Merkel held a keynote speech at the second day of the dialogue.

Ambassador Latheef attended the 14th Asia-Pacific Week Berlin, opening ceremony at the Haus Der Deutschen Wirtschaft (DIHK)

Foreign Minister H.E Mr. Abdullah Shahid arrives in Berlin on 08 April 2019 to attend the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2019. During his visit Minister Shahid met his counterpart H.E Heiko Maas, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Germany and participated at the Panel discussion on “Geopolitics in the Age of renewable energy”.

Ambassador Latheef participated at the Fourth EU Maldives Consultations held in Kurumba Maldives.

The tourism exhibition Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin 2019 is a B2B platform par excellence – an opportunity to meet with industry partners and do business. The Vice President is currently in Berlin as head of the Maldivian delegation, representing the Maldives at ITB Berlin, and is accompanied by His Excellency Ali Waheed, the Minister of Tourism of Maldives and Mr Mohamed Thoyyib, Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation. This year’s ITB Berlin Fair has over 270 representatives from 105 companies which caters for all types of tourism activities in the Maldives.

At the side-lines of the fair, His Excellency John A. E. Amaratunga, Minister of Tourism of Sri Lanka paid a courtesy call on the Vice President and both reiterated the two countries’ mutual commitment to strengthen historically friendly relations, as well as ongoing and constructive international engagement on global issues of concern.

After the inaugural ceremony, the Vice President visited the Maldivian Exhibits which showcased the unique qualities of the Maldivian tourism industry, as well as the variety of services and experiences on offer.

His Excellency Faisal Naseem, Vice President of the Republic of Maldives has inaugurated the Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) Berlin Fair for the Maldivian participants this afternoon, at MESSE Berlin.

Following presentation of copies of Letters of Credence to the Chief of Protocol, Ambassador Latheef had begun his informal courtesy calls on fellow Ambassadors, starting with his South Asian counterparts. On 18th February 2019, he called on H. E. Ramesh Prasad Khanal Ambassador of Nepal, On 20th February 2019, he called on H. E. Mr. Karunasena Hettiarachch, Ambassador of Sri Lanka and on 22nd February 2019 he called on H. E. Mr Imthiyaz Ahmed, Ambassador of Bangladesh. During these meetings the South Asian Ambassadors had warmly welcomed their new colleague from the Maldives and conveyed their desire to maintain a close and cordial relationship. They also discussed bilateral issues and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest. Ambassador Latheef thanked them for their valuable insight and guidance and expressed his desire to work closely with them during his tenure.
